As with all methods of production, advances in technology have revolutionized the way products are manufactured. As part of our commitment to remain competitive within our industry and whilst ensuring a high quality product is always delivered, we have invested in new machinery consisting of a CO2 Laser Cutter and 3 Axis CNC Router for our modelmaking workshop.

Our Laser Cutter, with a machining area of 600mm x 900mm can cut, etch and engrave a wide variety of materials creating a high level of detail that simply couldn't be achieved by traditional hand tools.

Using our laser cutter we can accurately cut model components such as elevations, floor plates, site contours and etch details such as roof surfaces, brickwork/cladding and window details as they are shown on the construction drawings. Another key advantage of using this machine is that production time is greatly reduced enabling faster turnaround and ensuring that we can deliver on time, every time, no matter how tight the deadline may be.

The most recent addition to the workshop was our 3 Axis CNC Router. With a machining area of 1000mm x 580mm, it can cut 2D profiles like the laser but with the advantage of machining materials that the laser cannot such as timber/hardwoods, modelling boards and various plastics.

The major contribution of the Router is it's ability to machine 3D profiles.  A boat hull for example is a relatively complex shape to create by hand. By using a 3D computer generated model of the hull, we can import this into our CNC software to generate the tool paths required to accurately machine the hull as one piece or in sections depending on size. Once machined, the hull would be perfectly symmetrical resulting in a component that would normally take days to produce by hand, being available in a matter of hours! In terms of architectural modelmaking, another excellent advantage of the CNC Router over traditional methods is the ability to model site landscapes quickly and accurately using lightweight material such as styrofoam or modelling board.

We also offer a cutting service to public/trade and would be happy to provide you with a quotation. For further information please contact us via email: info@twadugs-design.com
